Geography of the pass
The northern end of the Gap is near Kate Kearney's Cottage. At the southern end, the valley opens towards the Upper Lake, where Lord Brandon's Cottage sits by the water. Boats run through the lakes between there and Ross Castle, near Killarney town. That is why many visitors describe the day as a loop: road to one end, through the Gap, then water back, or the same in reverse.
